William S. Perrigo
1877 – 1931
Executive, businessman and city official, describe the life of William S. Perrigo.
Singing the praises of Beloit was part of his life, and Beloit probably never possessed a more watchful guardian. Like other benefactors, civic accomplishments are monuments to his memory, and Beloit is infinitely richer because of his interests in his community and because of the things he did for it.
He was an alderman for several years, and as a member of the city park board he was instrumental in the establishment of the Municipal Golf Course. He was a member of the Rock County Board of Supervisors, and he was chairman of the finance and building committee when Pinehurst Sanatorium was constructed.
He was born May 27, 1877, in Chicago. He came to Beloit when he was a young man. Prominently identified with Fairbanks, Morse & Company, he was a superintendent there, and later he supervised the improvement of the Eclipse Homes Addition.
Still later he was a merchant, and he discontinued commercial business to found the Lakeside Signal Company. His determination and ability spelled his success in varied branches of business, and before he died, July 3, 1931, his influence and activity extended to other communities.
He was prominent in Lake Geneva and in Elgin.
