Jack Gilmore
Inducted into Hall of Fame 1986
Jack Gilmore was born January 23, 1917, in Beloit, Wisconsin.
Jack starred in football, basketball, and track at Beloit Memorial. He was an outstanding halfback on Beloit Memorial’s undefeated and unscored upon football team of 1936, which never played in a close game. Jack rarely was allowed to play one-half of the game because Coach Jacobson tried to keep the score respectable.
In addition, Jack was a great passer, and because of his elusive running style, he often passed without having blockers for protection. This enabled Beloit to have five receivers in the pass patterns.
After high school, Jack played college football and basketball, first at Jordan College and then Lane College in Tennessee. Jack has been named to the Southeastern Interscholastic Association all-time football team.
Coach Jake Jacobson described Jack as the best running back he ever coached.
