Dr. Walter Crockett
1869 – 1965
Dr. Walter Will Crockett, physician and surgeon, was born near Seward, Illinois. He graduated from Beloit High School in 1892, attended Beloit College and gradu-ated from Northwestern University Medical School in 1896. He immediately commenced his medical career in Roscoe, Illinois the same year, where he practiced for seven years. In 1899 Dr. Crockett married Grace Baldwin and sired four children.
In 1903 the couple moved to Beloit where the doctor resumed his medical practice. He quickly became chief of staff in the newly organized H.P. Strong Emergency Hospital, where he served for fifteen years. Upon the opening of the Beloit Municipal Hospital Dr. Crockett was elected president of the medical staff in 1928. He also served as city Health Commissioner for two years and for a period of fifty years was surgeon for the Milwaukee Railroad in Beloit.
During World War I President Woodrow Wilson appointed Crockett to the Volunteer Medical Corps. He was likewise honored by both the Wisconsin State Medical Society and the American Medical Association, retiring from active practice in December 30, 1958. Dr. Crockett remained until his demise in 1966.
