Mrs. Eva Wilkinson
187? – 1933
Mrs. Eva Wilkinson was the first president of the Beloit Business and Professional Women’s Club, as well as being a charter member. She was born in Gardner, Illinois, graduated from the Morris Ladies Seminary and came to Beloit during 1893. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Germain of Illinois.
After coming to Beloit, she married George L. Wilkinson, who was general insurance agent for the Union Central Life Insurance Company from 1890 until his death in 1903. Mrs. Wilkinson, having the support of her two sons, George L. Jr. and Edward, continued her husband’s commitments and remained in the insurance business on her own from 1903 to 1914, when she associated herself with Miss Harriet Roberts in the firm of Roberts and Wilkinson.
She had been greatly interested in both civic and charitable affairs in the community, a member of the East End Club, the DAR, the Art League and the YWCA. She also was actively interested in the Beloit Memorial Hospital board and the Child Welfare Association. Mrs. Wilkinson died in 1933 in the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. Lathrop, in Rockford, Illinois.
