Alvin (Butch) Krueger
1904 – 1972
Alvin Krueger was born in Beloit on December 13, 1904, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Krueger. He married Margaret I. Vogel, October 31, 1929. He was a famed golfer and versatile sports enthusiast. He had the good fortune to be acknowledged one of Wisconsin’s greatest golfers.
Although revered as a star golfer, Mr. Krueger was also adept at basketball, football, baseball and bowling. As a baseball star he played for a period of three years with the Beloit Fairies baseball team and in 1928 was invited to join with the Milwaukee Brewers. He finished his baseball career with the Madison Blues in 1931. After having played professional ball from 1925 to 1931, he joined the traveling team of the House of David. At the age of 27 Mr. Krueger opened his career in golfing. He later won the state PGA tournaments and finished one stroke behind the fabulous Walter Hagen. Throughout his career he won practically every major golf tournament in this state. He set various records on at least ten golf courses while acting as professional at the Beloit Municipal Golf Course, which was renamed for him in 1967 in memory of his achievements in his chosen field. Thus he brought a great modicum of credit to his city of Beloit. He died on June 10, 1972.
