Frances Glenn
1889 – 1972
Frances Glenn was born on March 2, 1889, in Chilton, Wisconsin, the daughter of Truman and Jenny A. Glenn. She was a former member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, its Altar Guild, served as a Sunday School teacher and had been treasurer of the Old Rectory Shop. Miss Glenn graduated from the Milwaukee Normal School and the University of Wisconsin at Madison. She also taught in the rural schools in Calumet County for several years and then a short time in the town of Chilton itself. Miss Glenn was then attracted to the responsibilities of teaching in the Beloit public schools, finally becoming principal of Strong School for a period of six years. Her proven ability here merited her being promoted to the principalship of Roosevelt Junior High School where she held sway for a total of nineteen years.
Her other contributions to the youth of Beloit were as a member of the Wisconsin Education Association and the Beloit Historical Society. Miss Glenn was the last surviving member of the local Altrusa Club and held active membership in the Ned Hollister Bird Club. After her retirement from the local school system, she maintained an interest in the National Retired Teachers Association and the Beloit Retired Teachers Association. After such a distinguished career in the local schools, Miss Glenn will long be remembered by her former students. She died on May 29, 1972 and her remains were returned to her native city.
