Frank J. Marsden

1932 – 2013

Frank Marsden was known to the community as a businessman, an elected official and long-time court bailiff.

Marsden was born in 1932 and had been a life-long resident of Beloit. He attended Beloit schools and graduated Beloit High School in 1950. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving during the duration of the Korean War.

Following his military service, Marsden was purchasing agent for Hanson Equipment and sales manager for a local radio station. He and his wife, Sue, who he had been married to for
59 years, were owners and operators of the Dari Ripple ice cream stand from 1976 to 1992. He was appointed by Circuit Judge Gerald Jaeckle as bailiff for his court, and upon Jaeckle’s retirement, he was appointed by Judge Michael Byron as bailiff for his court, a position he held until shortly before Marsden’s death in 2013.

Marsden served as a member of the Beloit City Council, the School District of Beloit Board of Education and the Rock County Board of Supervisors. He also was appointed to the Beloit Police and Fire Commission, The Beloit Alcohol Advisory and Review Board and the Beloit Board of Review.

He was a charter member of the Town of Turtle Fire Department and an active member of the First Baptist Church. He was awarded Ambassador of the year and the Beloit Daily
News Volunteer of the Month.
