Henry Partridge Strong

1832 – 1883

Henry Partridge Strong was born in Brownington, Vermont, February 8, 1832. He graduated from the Castleton Medical College in 1853 and was a physician with a large practice in and for many miles about Beloit. He was elected mayor of Beloit for several terms. He also was appointed postmaster under several appointments by various U.W. Presidents. He was secretary and later president of the Wisconsin State Medical Society. He was a member of the Congressional Committee, First District of Wisconsin. His hobby was breeding Kentucky thoroughbred trotters of Hambletonian strain. The Strong School in Beloit was named for Dr. Strong. His wife, who he married September 8, 1857, was Sarah Maria Clary. The couple sired eight children, all of whom died young but one.

The son, Russell James Clary Strong, was born November 28, 1868. He received his A.B. from Beloit College in 1891 and beginning in September 1894, studied medicine at Rush Medical College in Chicago. He married Hedwig Nitschke in 1899 and received his M.D. in 1900. He practiced medicine in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The couple had two sons, one of whom makes the third generation of doctors. He was Russell Gridley Strong, born in Milwaukee on October 31, 1901 and began his medical practice October of 1922 at Manitowoc, Wisconsin.
