Rolf Rosman

1873 – 1941

Born in Whitewater in 1873, Rolf Rosman came to Beloit in 1895 and worked in the Meehan and Van Lone grocery stores. He enlisted as a private during the Spanish-American War and after the war returned to Beloit.

In 1901 Rosman went to work for John Houston as an undertaker, became a partner in 1910 and upon Mr. Houston’s death, carried on and enlarged the business. Eventually Mr. Rosman brought in partners and the firm became Rosman, Uehling, Kinzer, one of Beloit’s most successful funeral homes.

Rolf Rosman was very active in the community and belonged to many boards and organizations: The Spanish War Veterans, Grinnell Memorial Hall, the Board of Educa-tion for 12 years, the board of directors of Beloit Savings Bank and the YMCA, Knights of Pythias, Elks, Masons and Rotary. He was a generous man, liberally supporting all civic and church activities.
