Theodore M. Robie

1892 – 1982

Theodore M. Robie, devoted father and husband, distinguished engineer, and respected community leader, was born on May 18, 1892.

Ted enlisted in the U.S. 33rd Army Engineer Corps in World War I and served in France as a First Sergeant. Upon completion of his military duties, Ted joined Fairbanks Morse and Company in Beloit for a career that lasted 40 years.

Mr. Robie married Maude Hinckley on June 30, 1923. She died in 1970. In 1949 Ted was promoted to Quality Control Director of Fairbanks Morse and in 1952 he became Administrative Engineer. He retired from Fairbanks in 1959 completing a distinguished career as a mechanical engineer and executive.

Ted was recognized world-wide as a diesel expert. He was honored by the Engineering Fraternity for his contributions in promoting world-wide diesel standards.

In addition to his contributions to the business life of Beloit, he made a significant contribution to the quality of life by the selfless contribution of himself to the Boy Scouts for which he received the Silver Beaver Award, to the Vocational School Board, to the Second Congregational Church Board, to the Greater Beloit Association of Commerce Ambassador’s Action club, to the United Givers Fund, to the Red Cross Blood Drive and to many other civic projects.

Ted died July 6, 1982.
